Portals and Collaboration Practice Lead Trey Mayer discusses how his IT journey led to his recent accolade, and how others can continually grow in a rapidly changing industry.

I’ve always been a person that likes to take things apart, figure out how they work, and put them back together. I love the thought of knowing how something works inside and out, and whether there’s an opportunity to improve it. That mentality is particularly helpful in the IT industry because there’s always a chance that whatever you’re working on, whether it be an iOS application or a business technology solution, there will be that prospect of refining it. Trey Mayer 20 People to Know in Technology

There’s a passion I have when it comes to this industry, and I can successfully channel that by working with HMB and our clients. My successes have come from truly collaborating with our clients, and depicting a more modern way of utilizing technology. Building great solutions involves understanding a business problem and then using technology as a tool to solve that problem.  Ultimately, I’m here to help our clients improve their process and bottom line, and we look to change behavior when it comes to their IT solutions to do just that.

After HMB made the decision to create a presence in Louisville and expand its borders outside of its headquarters in Columbus, I was ecstatic to move back to Kentucky and be the boots on the ground for the company. A lot of folks here are not familiar with HMB, but they know that Columbus is a great city when it comes to technology. Since HMB has had consistent accolades when it relates to IT, I can make it clear that we have a lot to bring to the table. It’s about bringing the mentality of HMB, and the solutions we can help create, to an already thriving city when it relates to technology.

Being recognized for this award is an honor that I share equally with HMB. My team has always provided me with the tools, knowledge and business acumen to help my clients win. This is largely why I am where I am today, and I’m proud to be a key player in our new movement to provide value in Louisville.

Ultimately, I don’t wake up and go to work. I wake up and do what I love to do - it’s my passion. I think anyone wanting to be successful in this industry has to have that passion. You also need to learn how to learn. Rather, once I figured out how I understand new IT concepts or arrive at answers I’m seeking, it was easier for me to learn. Not everyone is the same in this aspect. In an industry that changes faster than any other, it’s important to figure out how you learn most effectively. When that happens, you’re constantly seeking out more information because you know how to synthesize it. Learning needs to happen continually if you want to stay relevant.
